Spendilly Vendor Guidelines for AI-Assisted Art

At Spendilly, we celebrate creativity in all its forms. We recognize that modern tools like AI can complement an artist’s vision and expand the boundaries of expression. However, we also value authenticity, originality, and the human connection behind every product. These guidelines ensure that AI-assisted art aligns with Spendilly’s ethos of “artful living” while maintaining transparency and trust.

1. Definition of AI-Assisted Art

AI-Assisted Art refers to products where AI tools (such as MidJourney, DALL·E, Stable Diffusion, etc.) play a role in the creative process. However, the final product must reflect significant human direction, intention, and refinement.

2. Acceptable AI-Assisted Art

AI-Assisted Art is welcome on Spendilly if it meets the following criteria:

a. Human Involvement is Essential

• AI tools must serve as a creative aid, not the sole creator.
• Vendors must demonstrate clear artistic direction:
  • Concept creation, prompt crafting, refining, and final editing.
  • Example: Adding textures, colors, or details post-generation.

Example of Acceptable Work:

• “I generated this image using MidJourney, then digitally refined it in Photoshop to add depth, correct colors, and align with my original concept.”

b. Originality and Creative Vision

• AI-generated art must reflect the vendor’s unique vision and creative input.
• Work that directly imitates or replicates existing artworks, specific artists’ styles, or copyrighted content is not allowed.

Prohibited Examples:

• Using prompts that clone an artist’s signature style.
• Imitating recognizable works or generating derivative content.

c. Transparency and Disclosure

Vendors must disclose the use of AI tools in their creative process. Transparency fosters trust with buyers and maintains Spendilly’s integrity as a platform.

• Where to Disclose:
  • Include AI disclosure in the product description.
  • Example: “This artwork was created using MidJourney and hand-finished with Procreate.”

d. Storytelling and Process

Spendilly places high value on the stories behind products. Vendors must share their creative journey with AI tools, including:

• The Concept: What inspired the idea for this piece?
• The Process: How did you use AI, and what creative decisions did you make?
• The Meaning: What does the final product represent to you as an artist?

Example of a Product Description:
“Inspired by my love of the sea, I used MidJourney to generate the initial composition, capturing the fluidity of water. I then refined it in Photoshop, adding hand-painted elements to emphasize the serenity of the ocean waves. This piece represents the harmony of technology and artistic expression.”

• High Resolution: Upload files at a minimum resolution of 300 DPI for prints or digital art.

• Refinement: The final product should show clear human input and polish, avoiding raw or unedited outputs from AI tools.

4. Prohibited AI-Generated Content

Spendilly does not allow the following:

• Unrefined AI Outputs: Work that shows no significant human involvement.
• Replicas of Existing Art: Prompts or outputs that imitate specific artists, copyrighted works, or recognizable characters.
• Generic Content: Overly simplistic or generic designs with no artistic merit (e.g., generic patterns or slogans).
